What sort of work can I expect to find at Made In The Shade?

You can expect to find all sorts of swell handmade and vintage items at Made In The Shade! We pride ourselves on attracting vendors who make and sell high quality, design-led products.  We don't allow mass-produced items and we don't allow whole-sale items. Our vintage sellers do not buy blindly in bulk - they handpick their collections especially for their customers!

You can find textiles, ceramics, millinery, jewellery, stationery, fashion, visual art, knitwear, giftware, accessories, homewares, vintage clothing and accessories, edibles, bath & beauty, corsetry - all manner of fabulous things!

As a Made In The Shade customer, I've noticed that sometimes I need to pay an entry fee and sometimes I don't.  Why is this?

Sometimes we need to operate a door charge at Made In The Shade events in order to cover basic costs.   Where we can offer free entry to an event, we always will!  Where we need to charge an entry fee, be assured that it is in line with the running costs of the event and in line with the attractions we offer.

As a Made In The Shade customer, I have favourite vendors I like to shop with each season.  Sometimes my favourites aren't there!  Why is this?

Remember - the Made In The Shade vendors that take part in our events are not 'members' of Made In The Shade.  Designers, makers and vintage sellers come and go as they wish and apply when they can.   We welcome applications from all sorts of creative businesses from all over the country.  We make every effort to give all the suitable vendors we come in contact with an opportunity to sell with us.  Demand is such that we need to rotate our vendors from season to season to give everyone a chance to take part.  Fret not - now we have opened our very own permanent retail space dedicated to handmade and vintage items,  you will be able to shop with your favourite vendors at The Made In The Shade Maisonette - every day of the week!

I would like to set up shop with y'all as a Made In The Shade vendor.  How do I apply?

1.  Register your interest being a Made In The Shade vendor by dropping a quick line to madeintheshadebookings@gmail.com

2.  Providing we are recruiting for an event, you will be sent an application form to fill in.  Complete your information as required (including high quality product images) and return it as instructed by the specified deadline.

3.  You will receive notification by email (once applications have closed) re. whether your application has been accepted or not. If accepted, you will receive an invoice and a vendor welcome pack with all the details you'll need ahead of the event.

How are Made In The Shade vendors selected?

Made In The Shade vendors are selected first and foremost on the basis of uniqueness and quality.  We endeavor to offer Made In The Shade customers a fabulous balance between creative disciplines and we look to offer them a selection of edgey 'rarely seen' products.  We do not theme product lines but we do go to great efforts to ensure that as a full collection, vendors' work sits well together.

I have not been accepted to set up shop at Made In The Shade.  Why?

If your application is unsuccessful, please do not be downhearted.  It could be that space is very limited and we have had to make some tough decisions.  It could be that a number of sellers have applied from your discipline or with work in a similar style.  It could be that Made In The Shade just isn't the best retail platform for your work.  Don't be blue!  We champion all creative businesses - we're just unable to showcase everybody's work.

What type of set-up is included in the event fee?

Your selling space includes a 6ft x 2ft trestle table and two chairs.  You may book more than one slot if you require more space.  If you intend to use additional display items (rails, free standing units, hat stands etc.) please indicate this on your application when prompted.  We can not guarantee we can accommodate extra items, but we will do all we can to help.

If you would like to substitute your trestle table with alternative display props, please get in touch to discuss options.  You may book more than one slot if you require more space.

Remember!  You get a lot more for your fee than just a table and chairs!

I'd like to share a space with a crafty chum.  Is this allowed?

Yes, it sometimes make sense to share a space with a chum.  For a small additional fee (currently set at £5.00), we are happy to allocate one selling space to two businesses.  The extra fee covers the cost of promotion/vendor literature/treats/admin.
